It was 35 degrees outside but our family was determined to try ice skating for the first time. We knew Panther Island Ice was one of Dallas/Fort Worth's few venues for outdoor ice skating, so we partnered up (via sponsorship) to find out why this should be on every winter activity bucket list for family.
Free parking starts off the experience right. Then, you walk down a long dirt corridor with incredible views of Cowtown with anticipation.
Located inside the Coyote Drive-In Theater space, Panther Island Ice may be compact but it packs a punch of fun.
Head past the food shack, then the bar, and grab your admission tickets and skates.
With skates in hand, find a seat at one of the various rooms that house lockers for personal items (bring your own lock if you have anything valuable to store).
Once you have your skates on and feel comfy, waddle your way to the gate that leads you to the ice to begin an experience of a lifetime.
We loved that they had several staff on hand to help those struggling or falling. With 3 people in the family who had never been on the ice before, this brought me some comfort knowing they could get some assistance.
For some like Kid Allergy, they could stay on the ice all day. For others like my little one, a few laps around were all he needed.
Luckily, there is plenty on-site that can keep you occupied beyond skating.
- Spend some time on the playground.
- Head indoors to the tented couch lounge. Bust out the crayons or electronics and this sitting area can be a nice little place to take a breather.
- Or, grab a bite or an adult beverage. Even, if you live the gluten free lifestyle! They have gluten free Hard Cider available at the bar AND gluten free pepperoni or cheese pizza at the snack stand.
So, we say you and your family should settle in and stay awhile at Panther Island Ice. With lots to do, this venue brings a little bit of winter magic to your world and definitely holds a spot as a family favorite for the season.
