We had the opportunity to partner up with Hoian Eco Coconut Tour (via sponsorship) offering a three part tour in the Hoi An area of Vietnam. This is our detailed review of the first part of the Eco Tour & Cooking Class featuring a walk through of a local food market with your Tour Guide.
Part I: The Food Market Tour
Our first stop was at the local food market for a bit of a walkthrough. The market consisted of visiting areas offering up meat, fruits and veggies, a variety of noodles, and lastly seafood situated right along the water.
We had already visited a floating market in Bangkok, Thailand, but something about this Vietnamese food market was particularly different for our family. It still felt extremely vibrant but with more of a laid back local vibe and a bit more raw presentation. We were absolutely fascinated with the things for sale here.
Indoors you find the meat section of the local food market.
Outdoors you come to see the vendors selling other local foods.
We loved that our tour guide asked what kind of heat level we could handle and purchased peppers on the spot accordingly.
Before we headed to this part of Vietnam, we had so many people talk up the famous noodles from this part of the country. It was such a treat to see that there is a whole section of this food market making and selling these yummy local specialties
Lastly, you come to the seafood area of the local food market.
Our favorite area of the market was along the river. Watching the boats float in the backdrop of seafood sales was peaceful. Also, because most of the items sold here were still alive, this was one of the most intriguing places to visit.
Look closely to see the shrimp crawling out of the bowl as a woman negotiates her desired lot.
Crabs are also sold live.
Our Tour Guide with Hoian Eco Coconut Tours taught Kid Allergy how to select a fresh crab. As there is nothing but a leaf or rag to hold back their strong claws during the selection process, Kid Allergy jumped and giggled when he first tried it for himself.
Ultimately, even if you have visited other food markets before throughout Southeast Asia, we found this Hoi An Food Market Tour very entertaining and unique. This is definitely a must do when visiting Hoi An, Vietnam, with your family.
Kid Allergy Travel received complimentary admission to attend the Eco Tour & Cooking Class with Hoian Eco Coconut Tours. Although this was part of a media visit, rest assured, the opinions provided in the post by Kid Allergy Travel remain our own. Photos by Kid Allergy Travel.
